Using ThetaTickr

Know what each tool shows and what it does not.

These short guides explain the main workflow from building a working list to comparing contracts, reading gamma positioning, tracking a position, and evaluating a roll.

Portfolio and shortlist

Build the working universe that feeds the scanner without mixing owned positions with ideas you are only researching.

  • Portfolio holdings store shares and purchase prices so covered-call capacity and breakevens can be estimated.
  • The shortlist is for candidates you want to compare without treating them as owned positions.
  • Select a row to load that ticker throughout Focus, Heatmap, and GEX. Refreshing updates market data; it does not place a trade.

Ticker Focus and preferred contract

Review the active ticker and the contract that best fits the scanner's current strategy, range, and filters.

  • The preferred-contract snapshot keeps expiry, premium yield, premium, delta, open interest, and volume together.
  • Earnings timing, strategy yield, and historical volatility remain supporting context; expected move stays in the Heatmap and Contract details views.
  • Preferred means the contract scored well under the active range and filters. It is not a recommendation.
  • Use Go to heatmap to inspect neighboring strikes and expiries before importing a contract to the tracker.

Options Heatmap

Compare strikes and expirations visually while keeping yield, delta, liquidity, expected move, and event warnings together.

  • Switch between covered calls and cash-secured puts before comparing cells.
  • Use DTE, strike-gap, exact-expiry, and liquidity controls to narrow the board deliberately.
  • Color represents relative fit inside the visible range. Select a cell to populate Contract details and the Trade planner.

Contract details and Trade planner

Translate a selected heatmap cell into contract-level context and a position size based on saved shares or available cash.

  • Contract details show premium, delta, probability context, expected move, activity, and the selected expiry.
  • The planner estimates supported contracts, collateral, breakeven, and assignment outcomes from saved portfolio data.
  • Treat planner output as a sizing check, not as brokerage execution or personalized advice.

Gamma Exposure - GEX Strike Profile

See estimated call, put, and net gamma exposure by strike, with spot, walls, and the modeled gamma-flip level.

  • Choose a DTE range, then compare Near spot with All strikes.
  • Call wall and put wall mark the largest modeled call and put concentrations under the app's sign convention.
  • This is an open-interest positioning proxy, not observed dealer inventory or a support/resistance forecast. Check gamma coverage.

Gamma Exposure - GEX Matrix

Break the same positioning estimate into a strike-by-expiration surface to see where exposure is concentrated in time.

  • Rows are strikes and columns are expirations; switch among net, call, put, and open-interest views.
  • Use global color scale to compare the whole table or per-expiry scale to reveal structure within each date.
  • A darker cell means larger magnitude under the selected scale. It does not express conviction or a price prediction.

Optionable tickers

Discover liquid US-listed candidates before deciding whether any underlying belongs in the portfolio or shortlist.

  • Rankings combine stock liquidity, option-chain quality, and normalized call and put income metrics.
  • Use warnings and data-freshness labels before relying on a high score or yield.
  • Adding a name starts research; it does not mean the stock or contract is suitable.

Trade Tracker

Record the opening and closing lifecycle so premium, realized P&L, assignment outcomes, and follow-up actions stay visible.

  • Import a selected scanner contract or enter a position manually, then update it when it is closed, expires, or is assigned.
  • Broker sync is read-only and tracker records do not place or modify brokerage orders.
  • Open positions can be sent to the position heatmap or Roll Assistant.

Roll Assistant

Compare later expirations and shifted strikes after pricing the cost to close the current option.

  • Net credit is new premium minus the current contract's estimated buy-back cost.
  • Compare DTE change, strike change, and normalized yield rather than ranking candidates by credit alone.
  • A roll closes one position and opens another. It changes risk; it does not erase a loss.

Unusual Options Activity

Investigate unusually active contracts with the daily scan’s coverage and data quality in view.

  • Start with the run date, coverage, and freshness before comparing activity scores.
  • Compare volume, open interest, premium, confidence, and quality flags together. A high score measures unusual activity; it does not establish a profitable trade.
  • Open a scanner link to inspect the underlying contract and its current liquidity. Activity alone cannot identify the trader’s full position or intent.

Options Order Flow

Inspect individual option prints for a selected set of symbols and lookback period.

  • Choose symbols and a lookback, then submit Search. Use Refresh to request updated results.
  • Read each print’s time, contract, price, size, and premium. Check the result limits and coverage before treating the table as a complete market history.
  • Separate observed trades from any inferred labels. A print alone does not reveal an opening or closing trade, the trader’s full position, or its purpose.
